Description
INSISTE is a sculptural action built from a paper braid suspended by a system of thread, pulley, and counterweight. The viewer can intervene in the mechanism and alter its balance: by lifting the weight, the tension changes and the braid begins to unravel. The piece can then be rebuilt, making repetition, imbalance, and reconstruction an essential part of the work.
Context
The action was created in 2026 for La paradoja de los ilusos – Volumen II, presented at Casa Malpensante in Bogotá. It is part of an ongoing investigation into everyday gestures, found objects, and the transformation of paper. The braid also has an intimate origin: it recalls a gesture learned in childhood, when Jairo’s mother used to braid small pieces of paper and candy wrappers. From this memory, a simple manual gesture becomes a structure that can be constructed, placed under tension, undone, and reconstructed.
What it represents
INSISTE stages a tension between control and collapse. There is a moment of excitement as the structure begins to give way, followed by the uncertainty of watching it fail and, finally, the impulse to build it again. The work does not exist only in the suspended braid, but in this cycle of making, undoing, and beginning again. Each repetition accumulates time, turning a minimal gesture into an act of perseverance.
In INSISTE, paper ceases to be merely a material and becomes a record of an action. The work holds the time produced by the hands and proposes a simple idea: some forms are not built to remain intact, but to find, in their collapse, the possibility of beginning again.

INSISTE es una acción escultórica construida a partir de una trenza de papel suspendida mediante un sistema de hilo, polea y contrapeso. El espectador puede intervenir el mecanismo y modificar su equilibrio: al levantar el peso, la tensión cambia y la trenza se desarma. La pieza puede volver a construirse, haciendo de la repetición, el desequilibrio y la reconstrucción parte esencial de la obra.
Contexto
La acción fue creada en 2026 para La paradoja de los ilusos – Volumen II, presentada en Casa Malpensante, en Bogotá. Hace parte de una investigación en la que Jairo Llano trabaja con gestos cotidianos, objetos encontrados y formas de transformación del papel. La trenza tiene además un origen íntimo: remite a un gesto aprendido en la infancia, cuando su madre trenzaba pequeños papeles y envolturas. A partir de ese recuerdo, el gesto manual se convierte en una estructura que puede ser construida, tensionada, destruida y nuevamente reconstruida.
Lo que representa
INSISTE pone en escena una tensión entre el control y el derrumbe. Hay un momento de excitación cuando la estructura comienza a ceder, seguido por la incertidumbre de verla fracasar y, finalmente, por el impulso de volver a construirla. La obra no está únicamente en la trenza que permanece suspendida, sino en ese ciclo de hacer, deshacer y volver a intentar. Cada repetición acumula tiempo y convierte un gesto mínimo en una forma de perseverancia.
En INSISTE, el papel deja de ser solamente un material para convertirse en registro de una acción. La obra guarda el tiempo producido por las manos y propone una idea sencilla: algunas formas no se construyen para permanecer intactas, sino para encontrar en su caída la posibilidad de volver a empezar.
